Get a Qatar ID and RP for a Baby Born in Qatar: Having a new baby is a cheerful moment for every parent in their family. Afterwards, they must also require their identity including a valid Residence Permit (Qatar ID card). Registering their child’s birth is crucial to gain several advantages such as access to healthcare, education and more.
This article provides a step-by-step process guide on applying for a Residence Permit (RP) and getting a Qatar ID for a baby born in Qatar with the required documentation.
Registering Your Baby’s Birth
If the baby was born in Qatar
If the child is born in Qatar, you must follow the following steps:
Step 1: Apply for the baby’s birth certificate
Visit the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) to issue birth certificates. The child’s parents must obtain a birth certificate to ensure their child was born in Qatar.
Keep in mind that the baby born to foreign nationals will not receive Qatari citizenship. Getting a birth certificate promptly has been made convenience by visiting the MOPH official portal.
Documents Required
- Original passports of both parents + copies
- Copies of RP/VISA pages of parents
- Vaccination card** + copy
- Notification of live birth**
- Copy of attested marriage certificate
Step 2: Apply for the baby’s passport
Afterwards, having the baby’s birth certificate, you should proceed to the Embassy in Qatar and must apply for the passport. E.g. if you are from UAE must make your baby’s UAE passport.
You must decide who will be the sponsor for the baby before applying for a baby’s Qatar ID.
- If the child’s mother is under parental sponsorship (family visa), the father will be the sponsor for the child.
- If both mother and father are working under an employment visa, the mother must be the child’s sponsor.
Step 3: Apply for baby’s Qatar ID (online on Metrash or offline at MOI Service Center)
The baby’s QID can be applied online and offline method by accessing the Metrash2 Smart app or visiting the Ministry of Interior (MOI) Service Center.
Option 1: Applying Under Father’s Sponsorship
Here’s how to apply QID for the newborn in Metrash (Father’s Sponsorship). I will cover it within two steps. Let’s dive into the process:
- Foremost, you have to apply for a baby’s Residence Visa.
- Once the visa is approved, you must apply for a Qatar ID.
Option 2: Applying Under Mother’s Sponsorship
This two-step process is similar to the one given in the first box:
- First, you have to apply for a baby’s Residence Visa.
- Once the visa is approved, you have to apply for Qatar ID.

Securing Your Baby’s Passport
After getting the baby’s birth certificate, now walk to another step which is to apply for a Passport. This can be done at your home country’s embassy in Doha and the embassy will provide the needed requirements and other credentials to fulfil the baby’s passport application process
Documents required for a baby born in Qatar
- Resident Permit (Qatar ID) copy of parents
- Marriage certificate of the parents
- Passport copies (parents and baby)
- Letter of employment from your company (attested by Ministry)
- Original No Objection letter from the father’s employer to allow him to sponsor the newborn (this NOC letter must show job position, salary and type of contract).
- Father’s original employment contract attested by the Ministry of Labour, Administrative Development and Social Affairs.
- Father’s original education certificates, Notarized, attested and legalised
- Father’s original bank salary statements for six months, which should be signed and sealed on all pages by the ban
- Rental agreement attested by Ministry of Municipality and Environment (AlBaladiya)
- Kahramaa bill for parents’ residence in Qatar.
- Birth certificate of the baby (obtained from the hospital where the baby was born)
- Vaccination card of baby
- Passport-size pictures of baby with blue background (at least 4)
Documents for a baby born outside Qatar
- Passport copies (parents and baby)
- Resident permit (Qatar ID) copy of parents
- Marriage certificate of parents (notarised, attested and legalised)
- Father’s original employment contract attested by the Ministry of Labour, Administrative Development and Social Affairs.
- Father’s original education certificates (notarised, attested and legalised)
- Father’s original bank salary statements for six months, which should be signed and sealed on all pages by the ban
- Birth certificate of the baby (obtained from the hospital the baby was born in; notarized, attested and legalised)
- Vaccination card of baby (notarised, attested and legalised)
- Passport-size pictures of baby with blue background (at least 4)
Application Process to Get a Residence Permit for Baby in Qatar
Before embarking ahead for the Residence Permit application process, you need to accumulate the required documents prescribed above.
Fill Out the Arabic Government Form
There is a special form in Arabic that you need to complete before submitting your documents.
Submit Documents at the Immigration Office
Go to the office, Take a queue token and submit the form to the representative. If the submitted documents are inaccurate then you must fulfil them as soon as possible and if the documents are accurate then your application is accepted.
After completing the application, you will acquire a receipt with the visa application number.
Check the Visa Status on Metrash2
You can assess your child’s Qatar visa status by checking Metrash2. Once the “ready to print” status is displayed, the residence permit is ready for collection.
Collect the Printed Residence Permit
To Collect the Printed Residence Permit, you must go once again to the Immigration Office with carrying your original passport, a blue background passport photo, and the visa receipt. You will have to pay the printing cost of QR 500 with a debit or credit card. Afterwards, they will then print your baby’s ID.
If the baby was born in Qatar or outside
Applying the Residence Permit via Metrash
- Navigate the Metrash and log in.
- Click on the ‘Visa’ icon.
- Click on the “Issue Visa” icon.
- Click on the “Family Visit” icon.
- Choose “Family Resident Application.”
- Click on “New Application” (located at the bottom right of the screen).
- Fill the form with the details of the child and click on “Validate”.
- Choose the “I agree on the validity of data” option and click “Next”.
- Upload the required documents and confirm your submission.
Applying RP via MOI Service Center
Go to the MOI Service Center nearby you. Provide necessary documents as prescribed by the office representative. Get the application form and fill it up at the typing center. After that, you will receive your child’s residence permit within a certain time.
Additional documents are required if the child is sponsored by the mother
If the child is sponsored by the mother, you should have an objection letter stating that the child’s father has no problem with the mother’s sponsorship, apart from the documents mentioned above.
Visa Fee For Newborn Baby
The visa fee for a newborn is QR 200. Similarly, the Qatar ID fee is QR 500 for 1 year. The visa fee can be paid by debit or credit card. Furthermore, you can get the visa for up to 3 years at once and get 20% off.
Applying for the Residence Permit Within 2 Months
If your child was born in Qatar or came from abroad, you must apply for a residence permit within 2 months.
Penalty for non-implementation of RP within two months
If you don’t apply for the QID within two months (60 days) you will have to pay a penalty of QR 10 per day. This system imposes until you get a QID whether your baby is born in Qatar or arriving from outside Qatar.
